Pre -installation

Acclimate your Floor

Keep the boards in room temperature for at least 48 hours in unopened package before you start the installation. The room temperature must be at least 18 °C before and during installation. For floor surfaces exceeding 100m² and or lengths exceeding 10m and overlaps to new rooms and floorsurface which do not join symmetrically, use expansion joints to divide the floor sections .

Make sure your Subfloor is Level

Inspect your subfloor before you begin. It must be clean, dry (max. 2.5% moisture content - CM method) and level to 3mm within a 1 meters span.

Installing

Ensure an Expansion Gap

With a floating floor you must always ensure you leave a 10mm gap between walls and fixtures such as pipes and pillars, stairs, etc.

When installing around pipes, drill the holes 20 mm larger than the diameter of the pipes.

Calculate in Advance

Measure the area to be installed: The board width of the last row shall not be less than 50mm . If so adjust the width of the first row to be installed.

Installing Over Radiant Heating Systems

Electrical radiant heating systems are not warranted as they have the potential to damage the floor.
Lamett warranty does not cover electrical radiant heating systems.
Below instructions are for radiant heating systems using water. Ensure the radiant heat surface temperature never exceeds 27°C. Before installing over newly constructed radiant heat systems, operate the system at maximum capacity to force any residual moisture from the cementitious topping of the radiant heat system. The maximum moisture content of the screed is 1.5% (CM method). Shut down the floor heating at least 48 hours prior to installation. Make sure that the temperature in the room is at least 15°C during installation. It is recommended that the radiant heat be applied in a gradual manner after installing the floor.

Choosing the Right Plank

The Floor should always be installed from at least 3 cartons at the same time to ensure good color and shade mixture. For laminate floors, this will avoid installing the two of the same planks next to each other.

One plank should always be separated by at least 3 planks from another one of the same plank.

Plank Direction

The long side of the planks must be installed parallel to the main light direction coming from the window.

Entrance

In corridors, install the long side parallel to the longest wall. For Herringbone installations in fishbone pattern, the planks need to be installed in the direction of the main entrance of the room.

Staggering and Reducing Waste

Random Installation Look - Uniform Lengths

Random Installation Look - Random Lengths

It is recommended to use the remaining cut part of the last plank from a previous row to start the next row. It will create a real random installation effect and reduce the waste.

What to Avoid

Uniform pattern

Stair-stepping look

Staggering ends less than 15cm creates an unfavorable look

Be attentive to staggering the ends of the boards from 25 to 30cm. The distance between two ends should NEVER be under 15cm. This will help ensure a more favorable overall appearance of the floor. Also avoid staggering the rows uniformly to prevent stair-stepping.

Blended Width Products

All Lamett blended width products are made of 3 different widths 90-142-194mm . Each box is made of 2x more 142mm planks than there are 90mm or 194mm planks.

When installing this mixed-width product, a 142mm wide plank MUST be used in every other row to reduce waste and create a favorable look. This sequence must be followed throughout the entire installation.

Effects & Patterns

Random Installation for a Natural Effect

For a more natural and authentic style, the planks have to be installed randomly. Random installation creates a comfortable and balanced look. It is also easier to install. Staggering ends 25-30cm produces a random, natural, and dynamic pattern.

In wet rooms (kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms) when a flooring plank is cut to fit (either end cuts or side cuts), a general Silicone based sealant is always required around the perimeter of the installation. It should be applied around the perimeter (in the expansion space at walls). This should also include any other areas such as islands, doorways, columns, etc. where the laminate flooring planks have been cut to fit.

Although Atroguard is water resistant excessive wetting needs to be avoided and standing water dried within 24h to avoid damage to the planks and subfloor.
